Dyslexia in a bilingual child in Spain is a maze, and nobody walks parents through it clearly. The Spanish system puts diagnosis in the hands of the speech therapist (the logopeda), which surprises every British or American parent expecting an educational psychologist. International schools want a UK or US-trained assessor. Spanish state schools want a Spanish-accredited report. Most families end up paying for two assessments, or getting one report that the other school will not accept. On top of that, you have to rule out second-language struggle before you can label a child dyslexic in their non-native language. The symptoms look identical and getting it wrong in either direction is costly.
